After you have chosen your preferred character class when you are starting out to play Maple Story, you are now ready to start leveling your character. And your new Maple Story Mesos character is now off to Maple Island as a Beginner.

On Maple Island, you will start off as a beginner class and level your way up to level 10 where you can then advance to the class that you actually want to be.

There are several key strategies that you want to focus on while you are on Maple Island which will help you to become an all-around Mapler in the game. They are:

1. Stats:

You need to start building your stats towards your character class (e.g. warrior, magician etc) that you are planning to become once you leave Maple Island.

2. Quest:

If this is your first Maple Story Mesos character, then you need to complete the quests on Maple Island to get a feel of how the game works and how to play properly.

3. Collect:

You want to start to collect items such as Blue Snail Shells and Mushrooms so that you can earn some Cheap Maplestory Mesos for yourself to purchase a cab ride to leave Maple Island.

When you first login to Maple Story, you will be given a view of the key configurations for the game. This is the default setup for playing MapleStory although you can change it at any time by hitting the Key config shortcut button on your screen. You will then be able to setup every one of your skills and all the keys to any configuration that you would like to have.

Once you have completed your keyboard setup, you will then have to talk to Sera. She will ask you if you would like to enter the Tutorial Zone. If this is your first time playiny, please do so. If you are a MapleStory veteran, it is always fun to see your character being dressed up in a ridiculous leaf costume or whatever kind of costume he is in.

Once you have finished with the bazaar tutorial, you will be transported to Maple Island.

On Maple Island, you will want to complete some quests and level up your character to level 10.

If you look at the map, all you have to do is to walk from the left to the right through the 5 zones and you will end up at a location called Perry where you can then take a ship off Maple Island.

Before you leave Maple Island, you will want to familiarize yourself with the controls of the game and complete a few quests that will help you reach level 10. This will prepare you to take on challenges on Victoria Island!

Bonsai, as a Japanese art form, is more regulated than it’s Chinese counterpart, the penjing. Bonsai attempts to achieve the ideal tree, while penjing attempts to reproduce nature. This is why perfect styling exists in bonsai if you obey the ‘rules’, while penjing leave you free to your creation. As a result these are the basic styles :

Broom (Hokidachi or Hoki-zukuri)

A very harmonious style, this form has branches that develop at a certain height, forming an upside broom. This styling is mainly achieved through a technique called the “V” cut. The trunk is chopped where you want the branch to start to develop and then a deep V cut is performed on the remaining trunk. This will induce buds to break near the cut. Zelkova serrata are notorious for this styling but maple and other deciduous species can easily be styled that way.

Formal Upright (Chokkan)

A tree styled the “chokkan” way has a straight trunk tapering graciously from bottom to top. The first and biggest branch is often situated at 1/3 of the desired height of the tree and is on the right or the left. The following branch is situated on the opposite side, while the third is in the back creating the perception depth. As we look at the branch structure from bottom to top, the branches are getting thinner, creating a pyramidal shape.

Informal Upright (Moyogi)

This style is very similar to the previously mentionned style as the same rules of design apply, however, the trunk is not straight but rather forms a sinuous shape while remaining tapered. This style is commonly used with conifers.

Slanting (Shakan)

Once again, this style is the same as the formal upright except that the trunk is leaning on one side. Branches are grown uniformly on the trunk like the formal/informal upright styles but the apex is tilted to the opposite side of the trunk giving a visual balanced effect.

Cascade (Kengai)

This styling requires an inclined trunk that is preferably at a 45 degree angle. The major portion of the foliage is below the pot line and sometimes goes beyond the pot itself. It often represents a tree growing on the side of cliff. A deep pot is used for this style.

Semi-cascade (Han-Kengai)

Similar to the Kengai style, this style also has an inclinated trunk. However, the foliage remains at the height of the pot line. In nature, we can see this style near a waterway, the foliage having grown on the side and leaning towards the water. While the cascade style uses a deeper pot, this style uses a medium depth pot.

Windswept (Fukinagashi)

A “windswept” tree represents a tree that has been growing in a certain shape due to natural elements . Often caused by strong wind, the trunk is always inclinated in a certain direction and all branches have grown on the same side.

Literati (Bunjin)

This styling is often represented in Japanese paintings. It is a tree with a tall and sinuous trunk. The foliage only grows near the summit of the tree. This styling is somewhat an exception to the rigorous rules of bonsai because it does not have specific rules. It represents what the bunjin movement is in Japan: the search for liberty.

Group/Forest (Yose-ue)

This styling often represents a forest or a small cluster of trees. It is supposed to be styled in a way that will clearly represent the growing habits of trees in a group. Many techinques can be used to achieve this styling and many perception techniques are used to create the illusion of a forest, or as Naka would say, “having the quality of the invisible beauty of nature”. To respect the Japanese art form, an odd number of trees is prefered for this styling.

Raft (Ikadabuki)

The same rules of the group planting apply to this style. However, all of the trunks emerge from one common trunk. This technique is often achieved with a branch placed verticaly in the soil. The roots form this branch and the upper part of the vertical branch develop secondary branches that will eventually become the trunks.

Multi-trunk Style (Sokan – Sankan)

This multi-trunk style has different possibilities. The first, which is called “Sokan”, consists of two trunks emerging from the same visible roots (nebari). The styling of the upper part of the tree must respect the same rules as the formal / informal upright styles previously described. Another variance consists of the same but with three trunks emerging from the visible roots. This is called “Sankan”. You can also have more than three trunks but to respect Japanese bonsai, it is prefered to have an odd number of trunks.

Roots Over Rock (Ishitsuki)

This styling has the specific charactreristics of having many visible roots growing over a rock and finding their way to the pot/soil.

Tree seeds normally have a shelf life of 1-2 years depending on species. But, it seems that the colder you keep the seeds, the longer they survive.

All the National institute of Agroforestry, will conserved seeds after doing the following process. They first clean the seeds, meaning they remove all non essential parts of the seeds. On a maple you could think of the wings as non-essential, which once clean they are called dewinged. After cleaing all the excess residue, they proceed with a three phase testing routine.

First, they will test for moisture, second they will determine the 1000 seeds unit weigth and third they will do a germination test. The moisture content test is done with an oven. Two units of tree seeds of 2 grams each are placed in aluminum containers and placed in a convection oven at 103°C for 16 hours. They determine the moisture content by taking the fresh weigth minus the dry weigth, divided by the fresh weitgh multiply by 100.The formula would be: MC % = (Fresh Weight – Dry Weight)/Fresh Weight*100. The target moisture content for most seed is between 5 and 8%. Seed that is above this range is further dried before being stored.

The second step of three is determining the 1000 seeds unit weigth. They dont usually count 1000 seeds, but they calculate the weitgh of 8 units of 100 seeds, calculate the average and multiply by 10. This calculation is helpfull for distributor but also reasearch wize, because it can give an indication of variation in seed size year over year.

The third step is to make a germination test. This will determine the seeds health and viability. First, they are place in a dish/box. The bottom of the box is covered with Kimpak, a germination paper made with regularatory requirements for industrial germination. The kimpak is moisten with water. They usually do four (4) groups of 50 seeds per dish. They then slide the tray in a rack store in a controlled temperature environnement. The temperature is 8 hours light at 30°C and 16 hours darkness at 20°C with a constant humidity of 85%.

Once these steps are done, they can now conserve the seeds. There is four levels of seed conservation. The last two ones are the one used by national institute. It seems the colder it is, the longer the seeds will remain viable.

The first level is storing the seeds at ambient temperature.

Second level is to store at fridge temperature, wich is usually 4-6 degree celscius.

Third level, is to froze at -15 degree celscius, this method will permit the seeds to remain viable for decades if the moisture level of seeds is no more then 8% but not lower then 5% at time of freezing. Normal practice is to froze seeds at -20 degree celscius.

Fourth and last is the costiest method but the most efficient. It is called cryoperservation method. Seeds are frozen at -196 degree celsicus in liquid nitrogen. This method is often used by research entities like government or national orginatisation. This method will keep seeds viable for several hundred years. For a normal person, the best way to store seeds is to keep them in a plastic/glass jar in the veggie fridge compartment.

For a short anwser yes. But, it’s like the lottery. Your chance of reproducing the exact characteristic well known are minimal. To be in context, bonsai enthusiast often praise a specific species for it’s characteristics that adpat well to bonsai growing techniques. For example, small leaves and small internodes are quality sougth after. You can find these specific characteristics present in all japanese black pine’s (Pinus thunbergiana). But some growers have found a certain plant, that as even more pronunciated specific characteristics. From that plant, they have reproduce it by cloning technique such as cuttings or layering. This plant was attributed a name, wich is called “cultivar”.To continue our example, the common name of japanese black pine is Pinus thunbergiana, but a cultivar would be Pinus thunbergiana ‘yatsubusa’. This yatsubusa is a cultivar of the japanese black being known for it’s short needles and short internodes compare to the general japanese black pines. Another example of a cultivar would be ‘Nishiki Matsu’ which is known to offer a japanese black pine with a cork like bark. But can growing bonsai from seeds reproduce these characteristics ? Yes and no. We say yes and no, because, you cannot reproduce 100% the same genetics as the known cultivar but you can reproduce another genetic sets that will have the same characteristics, ie: short needles or cork bark. Furthermore, you can produce an even more pronounced dwarf plant, or with leafed tree’s, a new color of leaves perhaps.Bonsai seeds, as in seeds from a bonsai tree dont exist. Growing seeds from a bonsai tree will not guarantee a bonsai. All seeds are tree seeds since a bonsai is fundamentally a tree. But some tree’s have been found to produce seeds that will mimic the parent characteristic’s. The yatsubusa tree seeds are one of them. Yatsubusa, which is japanese for witch broom, is a genetic disease caused by a fungi. When a tree is affected by this disease, it will produce dwarf shoots, and seeds produce will inherit the disease because it is genetics. Chinese elms, Trident maples and japanese black pines are three known species that have this yatsubusa disease.

If you like the idea of growing a bonsai tree but find the idea a bit daunting, you needn’t worry. There are many bonsai plants that are ideal for beginners and can withstand many growing conditions.

Cotoneaster – There are over 200 varieties of cotoneaster however the most popular for bonsai purposes are horizontalis, Microphyllus and Compacta Nana. These plants should be kept outdoors, and although they are generally very hardy plant, you will need to protect them from the winter frost.

Juniper – Whenever most people think of a bonsai tree it is the juniper plant to springs to mind and is commonly referred to as the “Karate Kid”.

Cherry Blossom – Many bonsai trees are considered to be either indoor or outdoor species, however the cherry blossom is one bonsai which can fit into both categories. Not only that but they are especially beautiful.

Azalea – The most common species you will find are the satkuzi azalea and the kurume azalea. They also have very beautiful flowers which will brighten up any garden.

Japanese Maple – Although this is not a flowering bonsai, the leaves more than make up for it, ranging from tones of gold to red.

This article is simply an introduction to anyone thinking of growing bonsai trees. It is important that you read up as much as possible on each variety to make sure you are buying the bonsai that is right for you. Just because they are the easiest of bonsai to care for does not mean you should neglect them. They will still need watering, feeding, pruning and re-potting, however this should be easy enough for any beginner bonsai grower

Everybody in Toronto is in a panic. The leafs are once again losing and after 40 years without a cup we’re all up in arms. Blame whoever you want but the bottom line is that this team has not had had a solid foundation to build on for years. Like any good organization building a winner starts from the top and filters down. When was the last time the leafs had strong leadership? Pat Quinn was certainly a good leader but his hands were tied to some extent. As were Cliff Fletcher’s. No folks, we need to look to the top and start with ownership.

The teacher’s pension board owns this team. How many other teams in the NHL are owned by a large group? Of course there are many markets with investment groups and “silent partners”. The difference here is the profitability factor. Everyone in business wants to be profitable but you can’t dismiss the fact that it is of greater importance for a group of pension stakeholders. Imagine… the Leafs lose money, the pensions drop and the teacher’s can’t retire. With the Toronto marketplace that will likely never happen. And with the pension group owning this team out of greed and a lack of respect for heritage don’t expect a cup anytime soon. What Toronto needs is a single owner or a group with one person in charge and focused on winning.

Focused on winning? What a concept! Could you imagine if the Leafs had the same commitment Ottawa has or New Jersey or Detroit. Well, whether they admit it or not Peddie and Tanenbaum are the most two out of focus hockey execs that exist. One’s Yin the other’s Yang. While one says “were not doing this” the other is doing the exact opposite. Success comes from leadership and leadership demands alignment and consistency. How is the rest of the organization suppose to know what’s going on if these two clowns don’t know what’s up and what’s down? To Tanenbaum’s credit he does offer more in terms of wanting to win and hockey knowledge but being a minority shareholder the final say is always left to Peddie. Why keep these guys? or moreover, why keep Peddie? Obviously he turns profit and that’s what the board wants but let’s get real. The Maple Leafs are as close to a sure shot ROI as any product can possibly be. Look at Harold Ballard. This guy ripped fans off for years and still racked in the cash. Commitment to winning is clearly the last thing on the Pension Boards mind.

John Ferguson Jr.? What else needs to be said. He’s made some brutal mistakes. Overpaying, no-trade clause, trading prospects, draft picks… the list goes on and on. Clearly this guy wasn’t ready for prime time when our friend Peddie brought him in. Who’s fault is it? Both, of course. Accountability and ownership has not been a strong point for either and yes if your leaders aren’t accountable do you think everyone else down the food chain will be? I do have some empathy for Ferguson. I mean, if my boss continually ran me thru the media the way Peddie has with Ferguson I would probably lose my marbles. That’s not to say that Peddie isn’t right about Ferguson’s shortcomings it’s just that some things should be left behind closed doors. But Peddie needs a scapegoat and someone to take responsibility. He’s not so we know who is. A true leader will always have the backs of their team no matter what the circumstances are. Again, Peddie demonstrates nothing in the leadership department. When follower’s witness such behaviour they feel it’s acceptable and follower’s will follow.

Paul Maurice? Give him a chance. You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit. From day one he’s been working with limited talent trying to make the best of it. I think he has a true desire to win… one of the few in the organization.

At the end of the day changing GM’s and coaches will not work in saving the Leafs. They need to start at the top and work down. Let’s get a new owner, CEO and President with knowledge and passion about hockey in Toronto. Let the President hire a GM that’s ready for prime time and let the GM deal with the day-to-day hockey operations and make the decisions without interference. A patchwork job will not work here folks. This is going to be an extremely long process.

You’ve got a lot of options for replacement or beginner paper cutters, and it can be confusing to sift through all the features to find the perfect trimmer. This guide is meant as an overview of the different trimmers available and my favorite machine in each category.

Manual Guillotine Paper Trimmers

Guillotine paper trimmers come in either wood or metal base. The base will either have its own clamp to secure the paper, or you will hold the paper in place while cutting. They also have an arm with a blade underneath and handle that you operate to cut the paper. This type of paper cutter is meant for occasional or low volume paper cutting- usually they can handle between 10 and 30 sheets of paper at a time.

A good choice for a smaller guillotine paper trimmer is the Dahle 212 Professional Cutter. Unlike some other low-volume hand trimmers, the blade arm stays open until you make a cut. It prevents injuries and unwanted cuts that can happen with a loose, falling arm. The maximum length of paper you can cut with the Dahle 212 is 12 inches.

This is the easiest to use and least expensive type of paper cutter, and the 212 is only about $80.

Martin Yale also has a line of high-quality guillotine trimmers ranging from small, tabletop models to larger floor models. At the same price and style as the Dahle 212, the Martin Yale W12 will cut up to 15 sheets at a time and features a plastic blade cover for extra-safe cutting.

Going into large floor model paper cutters, you can cut up to 30 sheets of paper at a time, thicker papers, and card stock. Floor models are also well-suited to cutting large drawings, art board, and other materials.

Dahle, again, has a high-quality floor model trimmer for about $1600. The Dahle 585 Guillotine has a maximum cutting length of up to 43 inches, and a foot operated clamp makes it ideal for large format work.

GBC’s Ingento CL570m Classic Maple Series is another option for large floor models. It will only handle paper up to 36 inches wide at 15 sheets a time. However, it is more versatile than the Dahle 585 in that its stand can be removed to convert it to a tabletop model, and less expensive at only about $560.

All manual guillotine trimmers have a maximum length of paper they can cut. If you need to cut larger or varying lengths of paper, a rotary trimmer might be a better option.

Rotary Trimmers

Rotary trimmers are distinct from other trimmers in that they can cut greater lengths of paper and newer models offer a variety of cuts other than just straight lines. You have more control with a rotary trimmer because you slide a small, two sided blade up and down the length of paper to make cuts. High-quality rotary trimmers typically make cleaner cuts than guillotine trimmers, and come in manual or electric models for large volumes of preset cuts.

Keencut makes a sturdy, economical manual rotary model – the 18 inch Keencut Technic Advanced Rotary Cutter. It boasts a well-built aluminum and silver anodized base, but is only good for paper up to .08 inches and not thicker materials. But for just over $200, it’s an economical option.

If you’re looking into electric rotary cutters, Keencut also has some solid offerings, but Kobra, Rotatrim, or Neolt are also good choices. Neolt carries the Electric Trim Series 200 – a good high volume electric rotary cutter. It will cut up to 79 inches wide, and includes a self-sharpening blade. It is foot or switch operated, and a reliable electric drive.

Stack Paper Cutters

Stack paper cutters can cut large stacks of paper or card stock – up to 750 sheets. They are similar to guillotines in that they have an arm that operates to cut the paper. With a manual stack cutter, the arm has a spring mechanism that provides the force to make cuts when you operate it. There are also electric stack paper cutters, which are made for higher volume use. They come either semi-automatic (with manual back gauge and clamp) or fully programmable.

The QCM 1200E Heavy Duty Cutter is a quality manual stack cutter that only costs you about $300. It has a cutting capacity of up to 1.5 inches and blade length (the max width of paper it will cut) is 12 inches. The QCM 1200E is close in price to many guillotine cutters and can handle about 10 times as much paper at once. QCM also has the 1700E, which has the same 1.5 inch capacity as the 1200E, but a blade length of 17 inches. Both are superior stack cutters, and QCM offers lifetime warranties to the original purchaser on all their stack cutters.

As far as electric stack cutters, my choice for automatics is the Standard PC45 Paper Cutter. This cutter is about $6000 and is made for print shops or other offices that need to cut many large piles of paper or card stock every day. Back gauge operation and paper clamp are manual.

If you’re looking into programmable electric stack cutters, they are more expensive than automatic, but can be programmed to save many cutting sequences and save much time and work for the operator. The Standard APC-45 Paper Cutter is about $9500. It can save up to 30 programs of 99 steps each, so you can set it and have it do your bleed trim work and basic cutting for digitally imprinted stocks.

The first summer, the tree did fine, closer to the fall, instead of having bright yellow or red leaves, they just faded and fell off. I have fertilized the tree all last year, winter and spring.

This year, the leaves are much bigger and much more plentiful. The tree has grown about 4 inches.

So here are my questions.

1. How can I make the tree grow faster taller? (There are still tiny, undeveloped leaves on the ends of the branches)
2. How can I make my maple have vibrant colors in leaves during the fall?
3. In general, any treatments that would make my maple have a better life?

Looking for a great piece of wooden furniture? This article will help you settle upon well made wood furniture by informing you about the different features to check out for. Wooden furniture often end up becoming heirloom as they last very long and have a timeless appeal. It is therefore wise to purchase durable furniture that can be passed down the generations.

You must, first of all, decide what type of furniture you want to buy. Plan your purchase before heading to the market. An important point to consider in wooden furniture is the type of wood used for making it. Two types of woods are used for the construction – hardwood and softwood. Hardwood is from trees that lose their leaves in autumn while softwood is from trees that never shed their leaves. The really heavy woods are from oak and teak trees. Amish handcrafted furniture is a popular option for hardwood furniture. Walnut, mahogany, maple and cherry are other hardwood that can get very expensive due to their relative rarity, and are generally used on the outside, where the wood is visible. Softwoods are used for less formal furniture pieces, or on the insides for the framework, supports etc. In most cases expensive furniture will have hardwood construction. Generally, furniture is a combination of both hardwood and softwood.

Another thing you should look into is the strength of the furniture’s construction. Every drawer should be easy to slide in and out and should fit well. The cabinet doors should not be creaky and should have a smooth finish. If you are buying a cabinet to keep electronic items, check for the holes drilled for the electrical cords. If you are keen on buying wooden furniture for your dining room, check all the dining room chairs and tables to see how strong they are. Ensure that every leg of the table is equally sized and that the table is steady. If you are purchasing a wooden rocker, sit on it to check if it rocks smoothly.

Any furniture made of good quality hardwood is very expensive. For good looking furniture at lower price, you can consider the piece that has a coating of fine wood on top of fiberboard or composite wood. Always have a budget in mind before looking for any wooden furniture. These days, Amish made furniture pieces are becoming very popular for their excellent finish, high quality hardwood construction, uniqueness and reasonable costs.

It is better to talk to the sales people in the furniture store to get as much information as possible about the furniture you are buying. You will get an idea of the bonding, finishing, type of wood, construction and the upkeep required for the wooden furniture by asking the sales staff. You can, with a little research, get a great piece of wooden furniture and make your house look sophisticated and attractive with its elegance and formal look.

The worst sweeteners to use are the artificial sweeteners. They have many bad effects on you including making you fatter. They are many times sweeter than sugar. They are not really foods and are more like drugs. Sugar cane is not really that bad for health. What makes it bad is the process that they put it through.

This is similar to what they do with wheat and rice. They take the nutritious part of the sugar cane out. It is a thick black liquid called blackstrap molasses. It is sweet and sold in the health food store. It is very nutritious with lots of iron and chromium. The part that is left is called sugar and has calories but no nutrition.

They advertise for people to buy chromium supplements since it is needed to metabolize sugar. The sugar robs your body of the chromium and other things. If blackstrap molasses is sold in the health food store, where is the sugar sold? You can say that it is sold in the sick and fat food store.

Health food stores now have Succanat or dried cane juice. This is the sugar cane without taking out the good stuff. Many health foods have this as an ingredient. It is not brown sugar. Brown sugar is just sugar with a little bit of mmolasses added to it. It is not healthy. The big manufacturers use the cheapest ingredients to save money regardless of what it does to you. So they like using artificial (chemical) sweeteners and corn syrup which is slightly worse than sugar.

There are healthy alternatives that health food stores have and they are ingredients in some health foods. You will find some products containing sugar cane or invert cane sugar. The former is regular even if it says organic sugar cane. The latter is no different than corn syrup.

The healthy sweeteners are raw honey, pure maple syrup, agave (from a cactus), barley malt, stevia ( a healthy herb that is sweeter than sugar) and rice syrup. The dried cane juice may not be the healthiest sweetener but it is fine as an ingredient in something. The blackstrap molasses is healthy.

The sugar that is already in foods, like in fruit, are the healthiest sweet things. This information is for ingredients when making something or buying something and reading the ingredients. It is much healthier to eat sweet fruit on an empty stomach like strawberries, avocados, blueberries, kiwi fruit, watermelon, peaches, grapes, apples, oranges, mangoes and pineapple. Try to get organically grown fruit when it is possible.

This is the greatest thrid period comeback in the history of the NHL. The blues trailed 5-0 with 15:10 remaining in he game, and came back to score 5 goals to force overtime, and would then score 17 seconds into OT. Only three times has a team come back from being behind 5 goals in the third period. Al Macinnis, who scored the Blues 3rd goal in this game, also played on the Flames in 1989 when they did the same thing, coming back from being down 5-0 in 15:44 and winning in Overtime. The other occasion was in 1982 in the playoffs between the Kings and Oilers. The kings were trailing 5-0 in the third period of a best of 5 series in which they were already down 2-0. they rallied to win the game and eventually win the series, upsetting the oilers and wayne gretzky. Aside from the historical significance of this game, it really epitomizes everything that was good about the Blues in the Late 90’s. Al Macinnis with his rocket shot, Pavol Demitra and others explosive offense, the spirit to keep fighting even when they should be down and out, and Ken Wilson with the amazing Play by Play. It’s a shame this team was never able to bring the cup to St.Louis.
Help answer the question about maple
Can a mature maple tree be cut back and regrow?
My neighbor cut back their 40yr old maple.
